It's the Law Policy

Posted Date: 08/18/26 (11:32 AM)

We have had a good start to the school year so far.

This is a reminder about our policy for absences. We have attached the "It's the Law" policy about unexcused absences. Here is a summary of the policy:

1. Please try to make sure your child comes to school every day.
2. If your child is absent, we need a doctor's note or a parent's note for the absence to be excused.
3. A student can only use 5 parent notes per school semester.
4. ALL notes must be given to the office within 3 days of the student returning to school. Otherwise, the absence will be unexcused. There are no exceptions.
5. After 3 unexcused absences, a note will be sent to parents through your child.
6. After 4 unexcused absences, we will call you to let you know about your child's absences.
7. After 5 unexcused absences, a referral will be made to Spectra Care for your child to attend a class on a Saturday.

8. After 6 unexcused absences, you and your child must attend an early warning meeting at the HCCA Building downtown.
9. After 7 unexcused absences, your child will be sent to the juvenile justice system for truancy.
10. If a student is checked out, with a note or in person by someone, this does not automatically excuse them. A parent note or doctor's note must still be sent in to make the classes they miss excused.

Please remember that absences are taken seriously at the school and county level. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
